A magistrates’ court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Monday, remanded a 49-year-old ex-convict, Asimiyu Bakare at Ilesha correctional centre for allegedly stealing some building materials.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun, the accused person committed the crime on 9th December, 2019 at about 5:30am, along Iwo- Ibadan Road, Osogbo, the state capital.
Abiodun informed the court that the accused person did break and entered into a shop belonging to one Ayanrounmu Semiu with intent to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed and offence contrary to and punishable under section 413 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II. Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.
He added that Bakare on same day, time and place also stole some items, including iron cutter and grinding mills totalling Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira, N250,000.
The accused person however pleaded not guilty to the two count charge levelled against him, as his counsel, Okobe Najite, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal term, assuring the court that the accused was ready to face his trial, and will not jump bail
In a swift response, the prosecutor argued that the accused person was an ex-convict of a similar case who can not be trusted on any ground.
