Members of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria otherwise called Shiites were involved in a face-off with operatives of the Nigerian police and three persons were shot during the fracas.

The group took to the streets of the National capital, Abuja on Tuesday to demand the release of its leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat who have both been in detention for over four years despite different court rulings ordering their release.

The IMN faithfuls were reportedly teargassed by police officers who tried to disperse the crowd, the officers also shot live ammunition against the crowd.

A recent report revealed El-Zakzaky, has been fed by the Department of State Services with the sum of N164.5 million in the space of four years.
