The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, says the report that Nigerians with bank verification number (BVN) will be given N30,000 as relief fund is false.  The report, which went viral on Friday, said Adesina issued a statement to that effect.

The said amount was to help Nigerians "stock up their home during the stay-at-home order by the government". As a way of reducing the spread of COVID-19, both federal and state governments placed restrictions on public gathering. In a tweet on Saturday, Adesina asked Nigerians to disregard the information.

"Fake news peddlers have concocted a statement, purportedly issued by me, saying FG will pay N30,000 to each Nigerian with BVN, to help them stock up before an impending national lockdown. Not me. The so-called statement is hereby disclaimed," he tweeted.

(@FemAdesina) March 28, 2020 The pandemic has led to a lockdown in some countries where relief materials are provided for citizens. Taking on Adesina's tweet, some Nigerians asked if the government has any plan to help its citizens at this time.

Below are some responses to Adesina's tweet:

But federal government needs to give us something, US AND UK are doing it…. Even though na 10k….. — Oluwatimilehin Gabriel Dada (@_oluwatimilehin) March 28, 2020

We all know this isn't from you, but what are you gonna do for people to relive them at this time? You guys should come up with something ASAP. — Forbes (@AmupitanOluwaf1) March 28, 2020

If you are saying it's not 30,000 , how much does FG plan to inject into the economy to cushion the effects of covid 19 in Nigeria? How much are you guys willing to pay the citizens amidst this threatening pandemic? If it's not 30k , how much? How much did it cost Buhari to win? — Chuka Okeke (@chukokeke) March 28, 2020

Didn't we have the money? But if na election period u guys would share it live And direct. #COVID19 let pray through it to get through it — Jamiu Babalola Bamidele (@jamiubamidele1) March 28, 2020
