On Wednesday, 11th of March 2020, it was reported that fire gutted some shops at the building materials market, Ogidi in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State.

Reacting to the fire incident which was reportedly caused by a trailer loaded with goods which caught fire at the early hours of the morning, Senator Ekwunife described the incident as sad, and embarrassingly reoccurring.

In a statement she released to sympathize with the victims of the incident, the Anambra Central representative called on the State government to seek better preventive measures to this incessant fire incidents which have continued to affect the sources of livelihood of Anambrarians.

"Many of these fire incidents are preventable. If we must arrest the situation, we must take steps to protect our markets, parks and public places", she said.

While commiserating with the victims of the mishap, Ekwunife expressed deep regret over the economic losses recorded, and called on various stakeholders to assist in bringing succour to the victims of the unfortunate incident.
