The Federal Capital Territory has commenced community active case search in Mpape, a satellite town in the FCT, to detect and halt community transmission of the coronavirus disease.
The exercise involves sensitisation and sample collection of eligible clients with a history of cough, fever, catarrh, chest pain and difficulty in breathing.
The Director, FCT Public Health Department, Dr Josephine Okechukwu, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, adding that the case search would be extended to Gishiri, Utako and Mabushi on Wednesday (today) and Thursday.
She said, "We have started the community active case search in Mpape yesterday (Monday) by sensitisation and sample collection of eligible clients. It will be expanded to other communities in the Abuja Metropolitan Area Council.
"It will be done in Gishiri, Utako and Mabushi on Wednesday and Thursday. We screen everyone with a history of cough, fever, catarrh, chest pain and difficulty in breathing."
Meanwhile, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, has ordered commanding officers in the FCT and other states to step up ongoing enforcement on restrictions and physical distancing amongst vehicle occupants.
He directed them to carry out the presidential directives on lockdown by impounding any vehicle found violating the orders with effect from April 14.
According to a statement by the corps' Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Marshal stated that only accredited essential workers with proof of identification should be allowed passage, adding that vehicles of violators should be impounded and the occupants handed over to the police for prosecution.
The statement read, "The corps marshal's directive is to reiterate the commitment of the Federal Road Safety Corps towards sustaining existing collaborations with the federal and state governments in the fight against the ravaging coronavirus and further ensure that the order on restrictions is diligently and effectively enforced with all sense of professionalism, civility and resilience."
