Not less than 30,000 Nigerians have participated in #BBNaija season 5 audition which was held online due to the coronavirus pandemic. The BBNaija season 5 is set to premiere on Sunday, July 19.

This was revealed in a statement by Multichoice Nigeria, the organizers of the reality TV show.

"Due to the restrictions necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, this season held online auditions with a record 30,000+ Nigerians participating"

The organizers also disclosed that this is the highest number of auditions they have ever received in the history of the show.

Potential housemates in quarantine

The potential housemates for the yet to be themed season are being quarantined in line with the NCDC safety protocols ahead of the show's premiere on Sunday, July 19.

The housemates will be put through a rigorous medical test as well as COVID-19 test before they will be allowed into the Biggie's house.

No live audience on July 19

The organizers of the reality TV show says there will be no live audience at the Sunday Night Eviction Shows and there will also be no unexpected celebrity visits to the House as they are committed to keeping all BBNaija season five participants safe and healthy.

The Big Brother franchise first aired in Nigeria in 2006, with the title 'Big Brother Nigeria', with Katung Aduwak winning a sum of $100,000 cash prize.

After being off air for 10 years, the show returned in January 2017 as 'Big Brother Naija', and that kickstarted the monumental status the show now holds.

Millions of audiences across Nigeria now expectantly look forward to new seasons of the thrilling Big Brother Naija show.

Past winners of the show include Katung Aduwak (2006), Michael Efe Ejeba (2017), Miracle Igbokwe (2018) and Mercy Eke (2019). With the success of season 4, expectations are high for this years season 5.
