The Nigerian government has reported 1,145 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, according to a tally by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

It marked the first time the country's daily new cases reached four figures — and is the highest single-day jump in infections since the pandemic began.

The NCDC also recorded one more Coronavirus-related deaths on Thursday.

It comes after the country reported more than 2,000 new cases in a week for the first time, as worldtopnewsng.com warn that the surge in infections could continue to worsen as winter arrives.

The NCDC has now reported a total of 76,207 confirmed cases and more than 1,200 related deaths.
