On Monday, new details of how gunmen shot Iyke Ume, the Imo State Commissioner for Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition, emerged. According to the PUNCH, there was panic in Owerri, the state capital, after gunmen shot four motorists in a robbery attack on Sunday night.

The incident occurred in Orji, near the Orji Divisional Police Headquarters, on the Owerri- Okigwe Road. One of the victims was a driver of an unmarked surveillance vehicle. When they double-crossed him, they shot him before targeting other cars, including commercial buses, in which he was driving.

The incident brought an immediate halt to commercial activity in the city, as people scurried for safety, including those drinking at nearby bars. The commissioner was riding with the Special Adviser on Inter Party Affairs, Domic Uzowuru, to his home in Orji when armed robbers double-crossed him and shot him in the leg and side, according to an investigation by The PUNCH.

The attacked commissioner was also shot while dropping Uzowuru at his house in Orji after a song service with another commissioner, according to our correspondent's investigation. When contacted, Domic Uzowuru, the governor's special advisor on inter-party affairs, stated that the Commissioner had been fired.

"I was not shot," he said. The Commissioner was killed by a bullet. My phone, as well as the commissioners', was taken. We'd just finished a song service led by one of us, Austin Nnawuihe. When the bandits hit, he was about to drop me off. To God's glory, I am fine."

The victims were evacuated to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, by the police, according to Orlando Ikeokwu, the police spokesperson in the region.
