Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has been honoured and decorated with the prestigious National Peace Award of Most Peaceful Governor in Nigeria by Messengers of Peace Foundation. amidst cheers and fanfare. 


The governor was decorated on Wednesday, January 26 at the Government House Enugu by the National Peace Award Committee headed by the President of the Foundation, Dr. Suleiman Adejoh to a dinner at Government House Enugu.


He was also honoured with appointment as one of the Patrons of Messengers of Peace 

Dedicating the award to God, the governor expressed gratitude to the leadership of Messengers of Peace Foundation for finding him worthy of the honour. 


He said, “If there is a commodity in the market called peace, nations are prepared to buy it at all cost. Because we entrusted Enugu State to the hands of God, we have seen God’s hands in affairs of the state. I dedicate this award to the Almighty God. I also want to say a very big thank you to you all for this honour”.


He said peace is a vital ingredient to bring about national development, adding that no effort should be spared at this time in pursuit of peace. 

He noted that the founding father of the country in their wisdom opted to live together as one indivisible entity, urging all Nigerians to irrespective of their religious beliefs and ethnic alignment embrace love and humanity to foster nation building. 


Enugu has been identified as one of the most peaceful states in the country that has not recorded any incident of tribal or religious conflict in a long time. 


Analysts attribute it to the exemplary leadership deeply entrenched by the governor which has formed the bedrock of love and unity. 

As a highly cosmopolitan city, people from various parts of the country and beyond live and do business in Enugu without any incident of conflicts with their host communities. 


The governor is also said to be popular among residents especially with initiatives he has put in place to ensure that businesses thrive. 


He has taken the infrastructure of the state to an enviable level with massive road construction and rehabilitation that connects urban from the rural communities. This has aided farmers to convey their produce from the rural to urban markets. 


He has also been praised for raising the bar higher in the area of youth empowerment and job creation. This has helped in bringing insecurity under control in the state as the conducive environment and thought-out policies of the government has helped young people in the state to discover their talents. 

Recall that the governor was earlier scheduled to receive the prestigious award at International Conference Centre Abuja in November. 


He was unavoidably absent, for which he tendered apologies and requested for a fresh date. 


Notable Nigerians received the prestigious National Peace Award which took place at the International Conference Centre Abuja. 


Among them is governor of Katsina State Governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari who was also appointed as a patron of the organization 

He also bagged the Most Proactive Governor in Nigeria. 


Also at the event, the Emir of Bichi, His Royal Highness Alh Nasiru Ado Bayero who is also a patron of the organisation was awarded as the Most Peaceful Traditional Ruler in Nigeria. 


Similarly, the Executive Governor of Delta state Dr ifeanyi Okowa was honoured as the Best Governor on Youth Empowerment. 


The FCT Minister of state Dr Ramatu Aliyu Tijjani doubles as the Grand matron of peace received the award as the Best Serving Female Minister in Nigeria. 

President of the National Peace Award, Dr. Suleiman Adejoh commended the Governor for demonstrating the spirit of a nationalist and a patriot over the years. 


According to Dr. Adejoh, the award is targeted at spurring unity and peaceful coexistence in the country especially at this moment of growing agitation. 


He expressed the readiness of his organization to be at the forefront in driving national peace at all levels.

Messengers of Peace Foundation is also the organizer of the prestigious National Peace Awards in Nigeria; the prominent Queen of Peace in the country and worldwide; and the African Peace Awards. 


Among those in the delegation include, the Executive Strategist, Queen of Peace, Okokoro Ejiro, Manager, Queen of Peace, Jennifer Ijeoma Ezenwa, Members, Messengers of Peace Foundation, Caroline Ezeh, Charles Duhu, Uche John Abonyi, Martins Chinedu . E, Obiora Kene Akpanisi and His Royal Majesty (HRM) Eze Williams Ezugwu.
