In a move that was not surprising, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East led by all the governors who are members of the party, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State have declared Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as their consensus candidate for the party's upcoming Presidential Primary. The leaders made the declaration at the National Working Committee meeting of the party.

Speaking at the event, Abia State Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu described Wike as the aspirant with the achievements and capacity to gather the support of delegates at the party's upcoming presidential primary. He also described Wike as a worthy Igbo son that have made necessary and wise consultations to win the party's ticket.

The move by the PDP south east leaders is a big blow to Peter Obi's intention to contest for president on the party's platform. Reports also say that the PDP governors have avoided receiving Mr. Obi when he visited their states recently. Reports also say Obi has failed to carry the South East leaders along before and after declaring his intention to contest.

Note: This was updated with the report that Obi failed to carry the South East leaders along before and after he declared his intention to contest for president on PDP platform.
