Rights activist and public affairs analyst, Deji Adeyanju, has called for the suspension of the national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu.

Adeyanju, who made the call on Saturday against the backdrop of the crisis rocking the opposition party, said Ayu is adding no value to PDP, hence, his suspension from his ward or local government has become necessary.

“Ayu should be suspended from his Ward or LGA in Benue State and subsequently removed if he refuses to resign. It’s that simple. He adds zero value to the PDP moving forward,” Adeyanju said in a post on his social media pages on Saturday.

PlatinumPost reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and some other PDP leaders have called for the resignation of Ayu following the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate in next year’s election.

Wike’s camp argued that the presidential candidate of the party and the party’s national chairman cannot hail from the same northern region.

On Thursday, the PDP Board of Trustees chairman, Wahid Jibril-also a northerner, resigned from his position, but Wike insisted that it was not enough, adding that Ayu must go for peace to reign in the party.

Recall that Ayu hails from Benue State whose governor, Samuel Ortom, is a strong ally of Wike that is pushing for his removal as party’s chairman.
