United States-based Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media, Farooq Kperogi, says the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday had his own “emi lokan” moment.

PlatinumPost reports that ’emi lokan’ which means ‘it is my turn’ in Yoruba, was made popular by the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, who had during a meeting in Ogun State said it was his turn to become Nigeria’s President.

Reacting to a statement credited to Atiku during a meeting with Northern elders in Kaduna on Saturday where he reportedly said northerners should not vote Yoruba or Igbo in next year’s election, Kperogi said such comment was uncalled for and designed to promote ethnic politics.

“Atiku has had his own “emi lokan” moment. He reportedly told members of the Northern Elders Forum in Kaduna that northerners need him, not a Yoruba or Igbo candidate. That’s reckless ethnic baiting. They’re all the same,” Kperogi said in a post on his social media pages on Saturday.

PlatinumPost reports that Tinubu, Atiku and Peter Obi of the Labour Party are the top contenders in next year’s presidential election.
