According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Cristiano Ronaldo received no compensation from Manchester United following the termination of his contract as the Portuguese international wanted a clean resolution.

Ronaldo was due a compensation of £16million for the termination of his Manchester United contract but reached an agreement with the Red Devils to terminate his contract without receiving any compensation.

Romano said: “No pay off for Cristiano Ronaldo as both sides only wanted to have clean resolution to respect the history of Ronaldo at Man Utd. No ongoing strings on either side.

“Erik ten Hag immediatly approved the decision together with the board.”

Ronaldo’s statement after the termination of his Manchester United contract: “Following talks with Manchester United, we’ve mutually agreed to end our contract.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change.

“It feels like the right time to seek a new challenge. I wish Man Utd all the best.”
