Activities in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, Abuja were momentarily brought to a halt as Africa's crème de la crème in the Housing Sector stormed the International Conference Center Abuja for the 2022 Africa Housing Awards and Induction into the Africa Housing Hall of Fame.


His Excellency, Amb. Elijah Onyeagba PhD, Nigeria's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and the Head of the Nigerian Diplomatic Mission to the Republic of Burundi, won the 2022 Award Category of "Africa's Housing Diplomat of the Year".


Amb. Onyeagba PhD emerged the winner of the Award after a rigorous process of evaluation which saw him soar above 53 other High Commissioners and Ambassadors across West, East, Central and South Africa to emerge the African Diplomat of the year in the housing industry.

The Award ceremony witnessed high profile personalities across the continent such as His Excellency Hon. Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune) the Deputy Governor Of Yobe State, Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote in a representative capacity as his company, the Dangote Group won the African Most Customer friendly Award in the Housing Industry.


In his acceptance speech, Amb Elijah Onyeagba PhD dedicated the award to President Muhammed Buhari for appointing him as Nigeria's Ambassador, thus giving him the opportunity to represent Nigeria in East Africa and beyond. He appreciated his lovely wife, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Udo Onyeagba for giving her unflinching support which has enabled his numerous successes in Burundi. The Ambassador further eulogised the organisers of the Award for the recognition bestowed on him, while assuring Nigerians that he will not rest on his oars but will continue to fly the green and white flag as he continues to represent Nigeria proudly in the comity of Nations.


The African Housing Development Award celebrates excellence and successes of individuals, companies and players in the Housing Industry who are setting the trends in innovative construction, consistency in high standards, market expansion and are continously engaged in the development of the economy of their various countries.

His Excellency Amb. Elijah Onyeagba PhD, an Economist by training with an MBA in Finance, is an Alumnus of the International Housing Finance Program and Securitization of the Wharton Business School in Pennsylvania USA. He has also bagged certificates from Harvard Business School USA, Saïd Business School Oxford UK and INSEAD Business School, France.


He was the Chairman and is the Founder of Countrywide Housing Company (CHC) – a company which developed 676 affordable housing units in Muhammad Sanusi Estate, Darmanawa, Kano with an unwavering commitment to developing affordable housing units in Nigeria while creating value within the housing ecosystem. 


He has over seventeen years of experience in commercial, corporate, retail and mortgage banking; real estate, research, marketing, leadership and is an expert in the structuring and advisory on construction finance with specialty in residential/affordable housing projects. 

He was the Group Head (AGM) in charge of Real Estate Transactions in ASO Savings & Loans Plc - Nigeria’s largest originator of over seventeen thousand mortgage assets under the sale of a Federal Government Housing scheme. He had the additional responsibility of developing affordable housing in Nigeria as well as 

overseeing the company business concerns within the Federal Capital Territory, Northern and Southern Regions of Nigeria.
