The Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Paulin Tallen has called on parents to caution their children and wards against acts capable of distabilising the nation's peace and unity especially as Nigeria heads to elections.
According to the Minister, the elections will come and go and the country will remain, urging that every Nigerian should work hard to protect the country's infrastructure, peace and unity.
The minister spoke at a press conference organised by Jacco's Charity International in Abuja as part of sensitisation efforts to ensure a hitch-free 2023 polls.
She appealed to the youths to avoid acts that will lead to loss of lives and property but see themselves as agents of positive change rather than become vehicle for distraction and national embarrassment.
"I pray that Nigerian youths will be the vanguard agents for peaceful and successful election. The future lies in your hands" she added.
In her remarks, the founder Jacco's Charity International, Queen Jodie Frank called on the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the security forces to observe rules of engagement and maintain neutrality before, during and after the elections.
This she said will go a long way in engendering confidence in the minds of Nigerians on the credibility of the electoral process.
She appealed to political actors to avoid making inflammatory statements as the campaigns continue and tell Nigerians how their manifesto can provide solutions to the challenges confronting the country, adding that the Nigerian people are interested in the betterment of their lives than rhetoric.
She also called on relevant agencies of government to arrest and prosecute political actors igniting crisis capable of truncating the peace the country enjoys as the moment.
"More so, As a young Ambassador and a Queen, I’m calling on all Nigerians not just the youth to participate in the General election and ensure that it is free, fair, credible and without violence", she said.
Queen Jodie Frank continued, "Be focused and make sure you don't allow any politician to use you to fight your brothers or sisters as we are all one. To cushion the effect of what have been said here, we will start the youth sensitization campaign against election violence on the 20th of January 2023.
"The campaign will be carried out within the six geo political zones, so I implore all stakeholders the INEC Chairman and all who’s involved to join us in the train to campaign and sensitize the Youth and Nigerians against election violence for a peaceful election come 25th of February 2023".
The sensitization campaign which commences Jan. 29 will be officially brought to a close at the Abuja Unity Fountain after an address to the youth and the general public in some strategic locations on the need to maintain a peaceful election.
