Former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Mary Peter-Odili has been confirmed the 51st Chairman of the Body of Benchers.


A life Bencher, Adegboyega Awomolo also emerged as the Vice Chairman of the Body of Benchers as the Body undergoes a transition to a new leadership, contrary to the letter written by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyau to the body, nominating Funke Adekoya to be the Vice Chairman of the body.


Speaking at the event in Abuja, Justice Odili said there was a need for the bar and bench to focus more on the objectives of the body.


Outgoing Chairman Wole Olanipekun called for the unity of the profession and a disregard for people calling for an interim government.


Wole Olanipekun assumed office as the 50th Chairman of the body in March 2022 haven being made the vice chairman on March 30, 2021.
