The Adamawa State Police Command on Saturday apprehended a 56-year-old man for beating his 38-year-old wife to death.

The suspect Aminu Abubakar, a resident of Lelewaji, Shagari phase 2, in the Yola South Local Government Area, reportedly beat up the deceased Nana Fadimatu following a disagreement between them.

Abubakar had reportedly heard that the deceased was going to marry a new husband the next day, a statement by the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said on Sunday.

Angered by that information, the suspect reportedly hit Fadinatu with a hard object around 10 pm on Friday.

According to the police, she fell down unconscious and was later pronounced dead.

The suspect was apprehended by the police in Shagari Divisional Police Headquarters following a report received from the awaiting husband Mahmud Rufai of Shagari Annex, Yola South Local Government Area.

Investigation so far revealed that the suspect, a manager at Anasam Table Water at Jambutu 50 Housing, had one (1) child with the deceased after nine years of their marriage.

The police commissioner, CP Afolabi Babatola while expressing shock, commended DPO of Shagari for arresting the suspect and ‘making it impossible for him to escape justice’.

Meanwhile, as part of the effort to tackle criminal activities and other related offences in the state, the police commissioner has deployed officers from the Anti-Homicide unit, attached to the State CID to take over the investigation and ensure that the law takes its course.

He equally called on members of the public to report people of suspicious character around their neighbourhoods to the police.
