The tragic death of Herbert Wigwe in a helicopter crash in the US has opened the door for a new CEO of Access Holdings.


Bolaji Agbede has been appointed to continue the outstanding achievements that Wigwe has achieved over the past few years.


Here are 10 things to know about Bolaji Agbede, the new acting CEO of Access Holdings:

1. Agbede was born on October 22, 1970 to her parents in Lagos, Nigeria.

2. Agbede holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos (1990) and an MBA from Cranfield University (2002).

3. She is affiliated with the Chartered Institute of Management UK and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.

4. Agbede boasts of over 27 years of experience in human resource management, customer relationship management and banking operations.

5. She commenced her professional career in Guaranty Trust Bank and served in various capacities including Relationship Manager and Vault Custodian.

6. Her banking journey started from the grade of Executive Trainee in 1992 to Manager in 2001.

7. Agbede subsequently served as the Chief Executive Officer of JKG Limited in 2003, a business consulting outfit.

8. Since joining Access Bank in 2003, she has played a key role in the bank’s human capital development, serving as Head of Human Resources for the Access Bank Group since 2010.

9. Her commitment to excellence is evident through her participation in renowned leadership and professional development programs like, the High-Performance Leadership Programme by the IMD and the Strategic Talent Management Programme by the London Business School.

10. Her expertise in navigating organizational changes has been a key factor in her career success. She also led the implementation of Access Women Network, the Access Crèche and the paternity and maternity leave policies.
