Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, wife of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has trounced four other First Ladies to clinch the coveted crown of the African Iconic Woman of the Year 2024. 

She garnered a total of 2,228 votes representing 31 percent of the total vote cast to defeat Ibijoke SanwoOlu, wife of Lagos State Governor who came second with 1,755 votes. 

Aishatu Mohammed, wife of Bauchi Governor, and Gloria Diri wife of Bayelsa state governor, Olufolake Abdulrazaq wife of Kwara state governor polled 1,591, 943 and 563 respectively to come third, fourth and fifth. 

The online voting which lasted for several weeks have since been collated upon successful completion of process. 


Bamidele Abiodun has now grabbed the coveted prize of African Iconic Women Recognition Awards (AIWRA) 2024 as African Iconic Woman of the year. 

Addressing newsmen shortly after the release of the preliminary result in Abuja, the Project Director of FDN, Alexander Ajagbonna, better known as Fajag expressed gratitude with the performances of all the nominees, saying they are all winners. 

According to him, all the nominees did their best to mobilize their supporters to vote in the online voting exercise. 

The winners will be decorated on May 23 at Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja.
