Bandits launched a deadly attack on a military camp in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers and injuring 11 others on Sunday.

The terrorists also targeted civilians in Yarmalamai village, where casualties were reported.

According to a military internal memo quoted by Premium Times, the attack occurred around 2 pm, with over 200 armed terrorists led by Ado Aleiru, a notorious kingpin, assaulting the military camp in Yar Malamai village. Tragically, a member of a vigilante group, Aliyu Tukur, was also killed during the assault.

The memo detailed the intense battle that ensued, lasting over two hours until reinforcements from the Air Force arrived. Despite heavy casualties on both sides, the bandits managed to retreat from the area, prompting residents to flee for safety.

A credible source revealed that the initial clash occurred as soldiers were escorting residents of Yarmalamai village, who required military protection due to security concerns. The situation escalated into gunfire between the soldiers and the terrorists, resulting in casualties.

The following day, the terrorists returned to Yarmalamai village, setting houses ablaze and causing further casualties, though the exact number remains unconfirmed.

Efforts to reach the military high command in Abuja for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to key officials went unanswered.

The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in Katsina State and other parts of the North West region. Despite recent successes in counter-terrorism operations, such attacks continue to disrupt daily life and economic activities in affected areas.

The resilience of locals, combined with the efforts of security forces and aerial reconnaissance, remains crucial in combating the menace of banditry and restoring peace to the region.
