In a targeted operation on Friday, May 31, 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detained 40 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud across various areas of Abuja.


Among the apprehended, 18 were arrested in the Dawaki vicinity, while the remaining 12 were nabbed at different points within the capital city.


A statement by the anti-graft commission said that the arrests ensued from credible intelligence indicating their purported involvement in online fraudulent activities.


During the operation, law enforcement confiscated 23 mobile phones, four laptops, and four vehicles from the suspects.


According to the statement, pending the conclusion of investigations, they will face legal proceedings in court.
