The Police Service Commission (PSC) has released the list of 10,000 successful applicants for recruitment into the Constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
This announcement came after the PSC received the Police Recruitment Board’s report on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
Out of the 10,000 recruits, 9,000 were selected for General Duty, and 1,000 for the Specialists cadre. To ensure fairness and justice, the recruitment process involved collaboration with key stakeholders including the Nigeria Police Force, the National Assembly, and the Federal Character Commission.
In a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, the PSC emphasized that successful candidates were fairly distributed across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
The PSC inaugurated a Recruitment Board comprising representatives from the Commission, Nigeria Police Force, Ministry of Police Affairs, Federal Character Commission, Police Colleges, and the Police Trust Fund. This board oversaw the recruitment process and reported back to the Commission.
Interested Nigerian youths were invited to apply online from October 15 to November 26, 2023. The PSC received 609,886 applications, out of which 416,323 met the initial requirements and were shortlisted for physical and document screening held between January 8 and January 29, 2024.
After physical and document screening, 171,956 applicants advanced to the Computer Based Tests (CBT) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Of these, 15,447 General Duty applicants proceeded to medical screening based on their CBT performance. Additionally, 55,645 Specialists underwent practical tests followed by medical screening.
Ultimately, 10,000 applicants were recommended for final selection—9,000 for General Duty and 1,000 for Specialists. The selection of Specialists was done in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring a balance of geographical representation and capabilities.
PSC Chairman, Dr. Solomon Arase, highlighted the rigorous recruitment process aimed at enhancing the capacity and effectiveness of the NPF. He emphasized that the process was designed to uphold integrity, transparency, and excellence.
“I am filled with optimism because these young men and women represent the future of our nation’s security,” Arase stated, stressing the importance of starting their journey on a foundation of integrity.
The final selection process was structured to ensure fairness and inclusivity, with ten candidates selected from each of the 774 local government areas, following the National Assembly’s directive to create a diverse and representative Police Force.
To uphold confidentiality, the PSC assured that the list of successful candidates would be presented in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023, protecting recruits’ personal data and safety.
