Aurelio de Laurentiis has reportedly flown to France to convince PSG to trigger Osimhen's release clause.
Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis reportedly took a trip to France to convince the Paris Saint-Germain leadership to trigger Victor Osimhen's release clause.
The 24-year-old expressed his desire to test new waters last year, prompting the Partenopei hierarchy to hand him a new contract with a way out, a €120 million release clause.
However, the high figure and Osimhen's recent injury trouble have discouraged previously interested clubs. Hence, the Napoli president took a trip to Paris to nudge PSG back on track.
Clubs fear Osimhen's release clause
As Pulse Sports reported, Over the past few months, Chelsea have been heavily linked with Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The 25-year-old has been one of the hottest properties in European football in the past year and a half, and an exit from Napoli is expected this summer. However, it appears a transfer away from Serie A is not as certain as it was weeks ago.
With PSG earlier reported to have cooled their interest, Chelsea have also backed out of the race, citing injury issues, style of play and the huge release clause, reported to be around 130 million Euros.
According to Simon Johnson of the Athletic, the Blues' new boss, Enzo Maresca, wants to focus on other targets, with Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko rumoured to be a strong option.
Laurentiis flies to convince PSG
According to a report from GFNI, the Napoli top brass flew to France to hold a meeting with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and convince them to open their purses and splash on Victor Osimhen.
Also, part of the reason he made the reported trip was to discourage them from making a move for Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. As Pulse Sports reported, the player has already reached an agreement on personal terms with PSG and now only need to negotiate with Napoli to land the former Dinamo Batumi winger.
