President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged that the past year has been particularly difficult for Nigeria.
Speaking at the inauguration of engineering infrastructure in Guzape District Lot II, Abuja, on Tuesday, Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to reforming the financial system to ensure prosperity and relief for Nigerians.
The President highlighted the government’s focus on people-centered development, emphasizing the importance of providing essential infrastructure and amenities to enhance the quality of life for citizens.
In a notable gesture, President Tinubu announced the naming of two roads in the Guzape area after renowned African literary figures, Chinua Achebe and J.P. Clark. This decision followed a recommendation from Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
“Minister Nyesom Wike has shown remarkable leadership during these trying times,” Tinubu said. “We are continuing to retool and restructure our financial system to benefit the people of this country. Your ability to build and lead a team, and to fulfill promises, is commendable.”
The President also addressed compensation for those affected by the Guzape project, stressing that legal battles are not the solution. “Compensation is the answer,” he stated. “We must focus on development that benefits the people and promotes economic prosperity.”
Wike provided additional context, explaining that the project, initially awarded in 2003 for N14 billion, was divided into Lots 1 and 2 and contracted to Messrs Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company Nigeria Limited and Messrs Gilmor Engineering Limited.
Despite numerous litigations, the project, which covers 32 kilometers of road, has progressed. The cost was revised to N18.17 billion shortly before the current administration took office.
