Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Jos/Bukuru metropolis, effective from midnight on Sunday.
This measure aims to enhance security and maintain public order in the state.
In a statement issued late Sunday night by his director of press and public affairs, Mr. Gyang Bere, the governor explained that the decision was made in consultation with state security agencies. This action follows a review of incidents where unscrupulous individuals exploited nationwide hunger protests to commit acts of terror against innocent citizens. These criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, looting foodstuffs and valuable items.
Governor Mutfwang stressed that the curfew is in the best interest of all citizens and urged compliance to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents. He directed security agencies to ensure full enforcement of the curfew and warned those planning further violence to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
The governor also called on security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive to prevent any potential disruption to law and order.
He expressed gratitude to the citizens of Plateau State, especially religious leaders, for their support of government policies and cooperation during the nationwide protest.
He praised their commitment to peace and unity, urging everyone to continue upholding this culture of peace as they work towards a united and progressive Plateau.
