On Monday, the Nigeria Police Force announced the arrest of Ahmed Taylor, who was found mass-producing Russian flags used by protesters in Kano and other northern states.

In addition, over 30 protesters carrying these flags have been detained.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigerian Police spokesperson, revealed this at a press briefing held at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters, organized by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The Daily Trust reported the resurgence of Russian flags in major cities like Kano and Kaduna during the #EndBadGovernance protests, now in their fifth day. Protesters have been seen marching with these flags, chanting slogans, and carrying placards.

At the briefing, Adejobi emphasized that flying foreign flags within Nigeria, a sovereign state, constitutes a criminal offense. He stated that those arrested, along with their sponsors, will face legal charges.

“To carry the flags of a foreign country on Nigerian soil is a criminal offense. We have arrested individuals involved. This morning, Ahmed Taylor from Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State was apprehended for producing a large quantity of Russian flags distributed to young Nigerians for protest,” Adejobi said. He added that similar arrests have been made in Kaduna, with a total of 30 protesters detained so far.

The police are currently profiling Taylor to uncover other sponsors involved in this activity. The authorities remain vigilant in addressing the unlawful use of foreign flags in domestic protests.
