Manchester United kicked off their Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford. The decisive moment came in the 87th minute when Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee scored on his debut, securing three crucial points for the Red Devils.

Zirkzee, who joined Manchester United from Bologna last month for £36.5m, made a significant impact off the bench. Despite lacking match fitness, he poked in Alejandro Garnacho's cross to send the Old Trafford crowd into a frenzy.

The win was a relief for Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, who had expressed concerns about his team's readiness for the new campaign. Key players were missing due to injury or lack of match fitness, and it showed in the team's performance.

Fulham started confidently, and Andre Onana made a crucial save to prevent Kenny Tete's effort from finding the top corner. However, the visitors almost gifted Manchester United the lead when Bernd Leno's sloppy pass was pounced on by Casemiro, who teed up Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes had another chance to score, but Leno spread himself well to make the save. The Portuguese midfielder's struggles in front of goal continued, and Manchester United's lack of a predatory striker remained a concern.
