A father of nine, identified simply as Mr. Charles, has reportedly taken his own life in the Jeddo community of Delta State.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, leaving the local community in shock.
According to sources, Mr. Charles allegedly ingested an insecticide at his home in the Okpe Local Government Area.
After consuming the poison, he reportedly made his way to his in-law’s residence in nearby Ugbokodo, where he tragically passed away.
Before the incident, Mr. Charles, who was a member of the Jeddo Community Vigilante, had a heated argument with his wife.
He was reportedly pleading with her not to leave him, but she refused to reconsider. It is believed this emotional turmoil may have contributed to his decision to take his own life.
Although no suicide note was found, empty bottles of the insecticide were discovered in his pockets.
The authorities have yet to officially comment on the incident. Efforts to reach Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
This heartbreaking event has left the community in mourning, raising concerns about the importance of mental health support and intervention during times of emotional distress.
