Few days after Governor Monday Okpebholo named Cyril Oshiomhole, son of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, as the Commissioner for Health designate, the new Edo governor has also approved the appointment of Gani Audu as his new Chief of Staff.

Abujapress reports that Audu, a former Etsako West local government chairman, and one of the 14 lawmakers-elect that was denied inauguration into Edo State House of Assembly from 2019-2023, is a strong loyalist of Oshiomhole.

In a statement released on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, the governor highlighted that Audu’s appointment is aimed at advancing significant reforms throughout the state.

The statement read, “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly the good people of Edo State, that Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of Gani Audu as his Chief of Staff.

“The appointment takes immediate effect.”

Born on August 18, 1969, Audu holds an HND from Auchi Polytechnic (1994), a PGD in Business Administration from Benson Idahosa University (2011), and an M.Sc. in Intelligence and Global Security from Baze University, Abuja (2024).

Audu previously served as the Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council from 2004 to 2010 and was a member of the Edo State House of Assembly, representing Etsako West Constituency 1 from 2015 to 2019.

He was also the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress during the 2020 Edo State Governorship election.
