In a significant development, organisers of Miss Universe 2024 have announced Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark as the winner of the pageant, following a stunning finale held on November 16 in Mexico.
Theilvig claimed the coveted crown after outperforming 124 contestants from across the globe in the 73rd edition of the prestigious beauty pageant.
She succeeds Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, who held the title in 2023.
In a historic feat for Nigeria, Chidinma Adetshina, the country’s representative, finished as the first runner-up.
Adetshina, who earlier captured headlines by becoming Miss Universe Nigeria after being turned away by South Africa, has now set a new record as the most successful Nigerian contestant in the pageant’s history.
This year’s competition celebrated inclusivity, featuring 18 contestants who are mothers and debut participants from countries such as Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Moldova, and Somalia.
The event began with a record 125 entrants, with semifinalist slots expanded from 20 to 30. Following the swimsuit round, the competition was narrowed to 12 participants who advanced to the evening gown segment. From there, the final five emerged, representing Nigeria, Denmark, Thailand, Mexico, and Venezuela.
During the decisive moments, the finalists faced two rounds of challenging questions and a final parade before the judges announced the winner. Mexico, Thailand, and Venezuela secured third, fourth, and fifth places, respectively.
As Miss Universe 2024, Theilvig will embark on a global tour spanning 30 countries, along with receiving a year’s supply of cosmetics and jewelry. In a new initiative, she will also host a travel show, marking a first in the pageant’s history.
