English Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as they search for a solution to their underperforming attack, The PUNCH reports.
United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, has identified Osimhen as a top target following the struggles of Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee.
Notably, both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were left out of the squad for the Manchester derby, prompting further speculation about United’s need for a prolific striker.
The 25-year-old Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, has been in stellar form this season. He has scored 10 goals and provided five assists in just 13 appearances across all competitions, boosting his profile as one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards.
However, Manchester United face stiff competition for Osimhen’s signature. Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly leading the race, aiming to replace Dusan Vlahovic.
Osimhen’s previous success in Italy makes Juve an attractive destination. Additionally, Arsenal have shown interest, with former Gunners star Emmanuel Petit urging his former club to pursue the Nigerian striker in January.
The €75m release clause in Osimhen’s contract complicates a potential January move. Napoli’s director, Giovanni Manna, has dismissed recent transfer rumors, adding another layer of uncertainty to the situation.
“I already said many times that nobody has talked to us. Victor is owned by Napoli and currently playing for Galatasaray. I think a lot has been said about this; nothing is happening,” Manna told DAZN.
Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the situation and could move for the Nigerian if Rashford, who has emerged as a target for the French champions, joins them from United.
Chelsea have also entered the race for Osimhen, with sources suggesting the London club could be a more attractive destination than United given their current trajectory.
The striker’s loan deal with Turkish league leaders Galatasaray includes a January break clause that could facilitate a mid-season move, though his next destination remains uncertain amid interest from several European giants.
