Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, and over 100 passengers narrowly escaped a tragic air incident on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

The Vanguard reports that the Max Air aircraft, en route to Abuja, developed an engine fire shortly after takeoff from Maiduguri International Airport.

Sources revealed that the mishap occurred around 7 pm and was caused by a bird strike just 10 minutes into the flight. The bird strike led to engine failure, sparking fears of a disaster.

Fortunately, the pilot and crew managed to execute an emergency landing back at the Maiduguri Airport, averting a potential tragedy.

Confirming the incident, a Max Air Staff said, “Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft struck a bird mid-air, which caused one of the engines to catch fire. The pilot acted swiftly to ensure the safety of all passengers.”

The airline was said to have immediately provided another aircraft for passengers who were willing to continue on the journey while some others opted to retrieve their luggage and return home.
