Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Tems has called off her scheduled concert in Kigali, citing concerns over Rwanda’s alleged support for the M23 armed group, which has been seizing territory in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Her decision comes amid mounting international criticism of Rwanda’s alleged involvement in the conflict—claims that the Rwandan government has denied.
Tems addressed the issue on social media platform X, apologizing to fans and stating she was unaware of the situation when initially promoting the show.
The Kigali performance was part of her global tour for Born In the Wild, her debut album set for release in 2024.
Meanwhile, Congolese forces have pledged a military offensive to expel M23 rebels from the country, as the ongoing conflict has displaced more than 500,000 people since January, according to the UN refugee agency.
