A fierce battle between rival terrorist factions, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Bakoura-led Boko Haram fighters, has resulted in heavy casualties, security sources confirmed on Thursday.
According to a report by counterinsurgency expert and security analyst Zagozola Makama, on Saturday, intelligence sources reported that the clash took place east of Mallam Fatori, near the border with Niger Republic, in the eastern part of Boso.
The confrontation led to the deaths of dozens of fighters from both factions, with several others sustaining severe injuries, sources said.
“The two groups have been engaged in bitter rivalry over influence and control in the area. This latest confrontation has further weakened their operational strength, as many fighters were killed, and their hideouts exposed,” a security source stated.
