One of the governors in the country, Abba Yusuf of Kano State has suspended the Acting Head of Service, Salisu Mustapha, following allegations of unauthorized salary deductions and unpaid wages for some civil servants.
Mustapha has been asked to step down from his position as Permanent Secretary, Establishment, to allow for a thorough investigation into the claims.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, on Friday in Kano.
In the interim, Yusuf has appointed Muhammad Jalo, the Permanent Secretary of REPA, as the new Acting Head of Service while the investigation is ongoing.
The governor reiterated his administration’s strict stance against financial misconduct, emphasizing that individuals found culpable would face serious repercussions.
An investigative panel, chaired by Abdulkadir Abdussalam, has been given a seven-day deadline to investigate the issue and present its findings.
Mustapha’s suspension follows his recent appointment as Acting Head of Service earlier this month, which came after the substantive Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, traveled to India for medical treatment.
