The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD), in collaboration with the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), has intervened in the case of a nine-year-old girl allegedly s3xually assaulted by a man in the state.
Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, confirmed the rescue in a statement posted on his official X handle, @Mo_ogunlende, on Saturday.
He revealed that the incident reportedly took place at the suspect’s residence on Azeez Ademola Street, off Anishere, Ayobo.
“This was in response to a viral video posted by Comedienne Princess, who raised alarm to notify the public of the ugly incident.
“The survivor has been placed in protective custody, and she is receiving necessary medical care and psychological support through counseling,” he said.
Ogunlende also stated that the suspect had been arrested and remained in custody while DSVA handled the legal process to ensure justice.
He emphasized that the swift response from MYSD and DSVA demonstrated the Lagos State Government’s firm commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of all residents, especially vulnerable individuals.
The commissioner encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report concerns to authorities, reiterating the importance of the government’s “See Something, Say Something, Sort It Out” initiative.
He reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance policy for sexual and gender-based violence.
