The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to subsidise cancer medications and treatment services to ease the financial burden on patients across Nigeria.

During plenary, lawmakers also urged the government to provide free cancer screening for citizens and increase the number of treatment centres and radiotherapy machines nationwide.

The resolution followed a motion highlighting the alarming rate of cancer-related deaths in the country and the challenges patients face in accessing timely and affordable care.

The House emphasized that early detection through free screening and improved access to treatment facilities are critical to reducing mortality rates and improving outcomes for cancer patients.
