As preparations gear up towards 2027 general elections, a staunch good governance advocate, Mr. Segun Showunmi has set out a nationwide alternative townhall meeting, aiming to influence the outcome of the elections.

The townhall meeting has covered most parts of the country, including the North Central, North West, North East, South South, and South East.

It is expected to round off in the South West in the city of Abeokuta in Ogun State on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at DLK Event Centre, Moshood Abiola Way, Abeokuta.

Showunmi, though a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had recently got tongues wagging with a meeting with President Bola Tinubu who won the 2023 election.

He worked with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in both 2019 and 2023 elections as presidential candidate of PDP.

He has however been critical of the former ruling party over the lingering crisis threatening its unity and capacity to stand in future elections.

Top leaders of the party have been leaving in droves to the governing APC, weakening its structure across the states.

Though it is not clear which political family Showunmi belongs to, he has said who emerges the President in 2027 should not be a concern of political party, but of competence.

"The best of us must lead the rest of us irrespective of party lines, Nigeria must move forward and cannot be held bound by over ambitious bigots", he stated in a social media post.
