Three police officers lost their lives on Wednesday morning after armed men attacked a security checkpoint in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The attack took place in the border town linking Kogi and Kwara States. Eyewitnesses said the assailants arrived heavily armed, opening fire on the officers in a prolonged gun battle.

“The assailants came for their guns, which they carted away. Three police officers died in the gun battle,” a source said.

Video clips obtained after the incident showed vehicles allegedly used by the attackers as they fled the area.

The Kogi attack came just hours after another violent raid was reported in Kwara State. Armed men were said to have stormed Bokungi, a Tsaragi community settlement in Edu Local Government Area, killing one person and rustling hundreds of cattle.

Residents recounted that the gunmen struck around midnight, shooting indiscriminately to disperse locals before targeting Fulani settlements.
