Tension gripped Agbarho community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday after an angry mob lynched and set a woman ablaze over an alleged attempt to abduct a child.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when the woman reportedly tried to lure away a seven-year-old boy. The child, however, raised an alarm, insisting that he did not know the woman. His cries for help quickly attracted the attention of passersby, who intervened and rescued him.

The suspect was immediately apprehended by the mob. Rather than handing her over to security operatives, the crowd descended on her before setting her ablaze. She died at the scene.

When the woman was interrogated by the mob, she couldn’t give reasonable answers on how she got the child.

The mob beat her to stupor before she was set ablaze.

Recently, the people of Agbarho community staged a protest over the disappearances and stealing of children in the area.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe is yet to respond to an enquiry by our correspondent on the incident.
