Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 37-year-old ex-convict, Ademola Omokinwa, for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to death during a dispute over money.

According to reports, the tragic incident occurred in Idanre after Joy demanded the repayment of ₦100,000 she had earlier lent to Omokinwa. The confrontation reportedly turned violent, leading to her death.

Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspect has been taken into custody as investigations continue.

According to Ayanlade, the crime was reported by a neighbour of the deceased, Ngozi Gregory, after which detectives from the command promptly swung into action and apprehended the suspect.

“The report revealed that during the altercation, the suspect became violent and repeatedly assaulted the victim until she became unconscious.

“She was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention, where she was sadly confirmed dead by a medical practitioner. The remains of the deceased were thereafter deposited at the mortuary for post-mortem examination, while preliminary investigation commenced at the Division.

“Consequently, the Commissioner has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet and comprehensive investigation to ensure a thorough and professional handling of the matter,” he said.
