Police operatives in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State have taken into custody a suspect linked to the death of renowned Sayawa musician, John Zuya, whose music enjoyed wide popularity across Nigeria, particularly among the Sayawa people.

According to security analyst Zagozola Makama, Zuya had recently returned from Lagos, where he thrilled a large audience and reportedly made a substantial amount of money from his performance.

However, soon after his return home, the singer died under mysterious circumstances, leaving his community in shock and grief.

Days later, the Deputy Chairman of Zayoda in Tafawa Balewa allegedly released a video on his Facebook page, claiming that Zuya was killed by his friend, who is also a Sayawa artist.

In the footage, the Deputy Chairman alleged that Wakili confessed to killing Zuya out of jealousy, saying he captured Zuya’s soul (“Kurwa”) in a small bag before striking his head until he died.

He stated that this explained the blood visible on Zuya’s forehead after his death.

The tragic incident has plunged the Sayawa community into mourning, with calls for justice growing louder.

Following the claims, the police launched an investigation, tracked down, and arrested Wakili. Authorities say inquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding Zuya’s death.
