The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sports Department has announced the appointment of renowned sports enthusiast and administrator, Hon. Chief Dr. Jim Okolo as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the FCT Para Volley Association.

The appointment is contained in a official letter addressed to Hon. Okolo dated Aug 29, 2025 and signed by Luka Istifanus, Director of Sports, FCT, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The appointment according to the letter follows the dissolution of the FCT Sports Associations’ Boards in October 2023, after the expiration of their four-year tenure.

The constitution of caretaker committees became necessary to avoid administrative gaps while awaiting the Minister’s approval for the reconstitution and inauguration of new Boards, the letter states.

“The Management of the FCT Sports Department, Youth and Sports Development Secretariat of FCTA, have found you worthy to serve in the capacity as stated above for a term of seven months, beginning from 1st October, 2025, to 31st April, 2026, hoping that His Excellency, the Minister of FCT, will grant us approval for the reconstitution of the usual four years tenure in office,” the letter reads in part.

The FCT Sports Department further disclosed that the caretaker committees will oversee the affairs of the various sports associations within the interim period.

The letter also conveyed the Minister’s appreciation for Chief Okolo’s selfless service and immense contributions to sports development in the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.

Chief Okolo, a respected sports administrator and advocate for inclusive sports, is expected to leverage his experience and passion to strengthen para volley activities in the territory, promote grassroots participation, and foster greater inclusion for athletes with disabilities.
