Anambra State’s political atmosphere is growing increasingly tense just weeks ahead of the November governorship election. Reports indicate that Uche Ekwunife, the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, reportedly snubbed Governor Chukwuma Soludo during a recent public event, sparking fresh speculation about internal party frictions.
The reported strain between Ekwunife and Soludo is said to have roots in a controversy over Ekwunife’s academic credentials. Governor Soludo had previously raised questions regarding the authenticity of her PhD, fueling disagreements that now appear to be affecting public engagements.
Ekwunife, who is known for her outspoken nature, did not take the remark lightly. She fired back, attacking Soludo’s leadership style and accusing him of abandoning key governance and security issues plaguing the state.
However, things took a more personal turn when Ekwunife made explosive allegations about Soludo’s family, claiming that his wife, Nonye Soludo, once had an affair with the late former governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju. She also insinuated doubts about the paternity of some of the Soludos’ children.
In a swift reaction, Mrs. Soludo issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Ekwunife, demanding a public retraction and apology or face legal action. The governor’s wife also challenged Ekwunife to take an oath of chastity and called for a DNA test on her children to clear the air once and for all.
But Ekwunife appeared unbothered by the threats. She dismissed Mrs. Soludo’s demands, saying the governor’s wife should focus on explaining herself to her husband rather than seeking public validation.
The incident has gone viral on social media, with many observers describing it as one of the most personal and bitter exchanges in the state’s political history.
