A former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has reportedly passed away in London, the United Kingdom, Very Nigerian has learnt.
According to family sources, Obiano died after battling severe heart failure and complications linked to urinary cancer. A senior member of the family said his health had been deteriorating for months before the sudden collapse.
“His health had been declining in the past months, but the final collapse came suddenly. We are devastated,” the source said.
Medical officials in London also confirmed that the former governor was receiving intensive care before his condition worsened.
“He fought till the very last moment,” a hospital insider disclosed.
Obiano served as the fourth civilian Governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022. Born on August 8, 1955, he hailed from Aguleri in Anambra East LGA and had a distinguished career in banking before joining politics.
