In a bid to ensuring a safer Federal Capital Territory, the Nigeria Forest Security Service, NFSS, FCT Command has stepped up its local intelligence gathering mechanism in the six area councils of the Territory.

The FCT Commander of NFSS, Mr Bawa Atnadu made this known in Abuja during the Service’s Security Summit with the theme “Enhancing Forest Security in Nigeria: Challenges, Opportunity and Innovation”.

Mr Bawa Atnadu who said the summit was organized to further strategize on how to further compliment the efforts of formal security agencies in combating insecurity in the FC.

He said officers and men of NFSS in FCT are undergoing series of training and retraining towards improving their performance in line with international best practices.

The Commander therefore solicited the support of the Minister of FCT, Dr Nyeson Wike, Chairmen of Area Councils, Traditional and Religious Leaders as well as other stakeholders to enable NFSS carry out their activities effectively to ensure a safer and better FCT.

Mr Bawa Atnadu equally stressed the need for the Federal Government to further strengthen NFSS through legislation backing.

Highlighting some of the successes recorded by NFSS in North Western Part of Nigeria, the Commander in charge of  North West, Mallam Habibu Shehu said the Service through local intelligence arrested and handed over some bandits to security agencies.

He appealed for the support of State Governors, Traditional Rulers and Local Government Chairmen in the North West in the programmes and activities of NFSS to rid the region of bandits, kidnappers, boko haram and other criminals disturbing the peace and stability of North West.

Mallam Habibu Shehu, who commanded the Commander General of NFSS, Dr Joshua Osatimehin for creating avenue for officers and men of the Service to acquire necessary knowledge on effective security reiterated the commitment of NFSS towards safeguarding lives and property of Nigerians most especially within the nation’s forested region.

Other Stakeholders and Speakers at the Security Summit commended NFSS for its selfless service over the years and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ascent to NFSS Bill towards strengthening the nation’s security apparatus and actualize his renewed hope agenda for Nigerians in the area of security.
