The Commander-General of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Ambassador Dr. Joshua Adewole Osatimehin, has extended Christmas greetings to Christians across the country, urging them to use the festive season to pray for national unity and progress.
Speaking in a Christmas message delivered in Abuja, Dr. Osatimehin called on Christians to reflect on the significance of the season by seeking peace, development and the continued corporate existence of Nigeria. He also encouraged them to recommit themselves to the service of God and humanity.
He noted that this year’s Christmas celebration requires sober reflection in view of the prevailing challenges confronting the nation.
According to the Commander-General, personnel of the NFSS have been deployed across the 36 states of the federation and all 774 local government areas to support conventional security agencies in ensuring safety during and after the Christmas festivities.
Dr. Osatimehin used the occasion to dismiss reports circulating online about the recruitment of 30,000 personnel by the Service, describing such claims as false and misleading.
He said the reports were fabricated by fraudsters seeking to exploit the reputation of the NFSS in order to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians, stressing that the Service is not recruiting and has no recruitment portal.
“We at the National Headquarters of NFSS here do not have official portal yet but you’ll recall that President Bola Tinubu has given approval for the establishment of NFSS but we’re at the verge of harmonization and it’s after the harmonization has been done that through the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment that we’re going to be directed on the next line of action but we in NFSS are not doing any recruitment hence the need for the general public to disregard the fake news,” he stressed.
The NFSS boss expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as well as the Military, DSS, Police, NSCDC, Customs, Immigration and NDLEA for their continued support to the Service.
He also thanked the Senate and House of Representatives for the passage of the NFSS Bill, noting that it reflected the lawmakers’ commitment to addressing crimes within forested areas nationwide.
Dr. Osatimehin appealed to President Tinubu to assent to the bill, describing it as a critical step towards strengthening security in line with the administration’s renewed hope agenda.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the NFSS to continue complementing the efforts of formal security agencies in combating banditry, kidnapping, Boko Haram, terrorism and other criminal activities, particularly within forest regions of the country.
