Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, also known as Grace Nation Liberation City, has publicly apologised to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala after days of controversy surrounding a marriage dispute that led to her arrest and later release by the Nigeria Police.
The apology was delivered during a livestream uploaded by DavePlayBlogger on Sunday.
In the broadcast, Okafor admitted to making mistakes while rejecting several allegations levelled against him.
“Listen, we’re not joining issues. Mistakes have been made in the past. And I tender apology to everybody,” the cleric said.
Despite offering an apology, Okafor insisted that the claims made against him were untrue.
“But everything that was said is not true. Everything, take note, everything that was said was never true. There are so many lies in most of the things that were said,” he stated.
He nonetheless addressed Ogala directly, extending his apology to her and others he acknowledged he may have offended.
“But be it. I say I am sorry to everyone I have offended. To Doris Ogala, I also say sorry,” Okafor said.
The pastor further stated his willingness to correct any wrongdoing.
“And I apologize to everyone that I have offended. And once again, I repeat this. I’m ready to make restitution to anyone,” he said.
Describing the apology as both private and public, Okafor added, “And anybody, any lady, anywhere, or man I have offended, I am sorry. Forgive me. I am not perfect. I’ve never been perfect,” noting that, “I’m kneeling down before everyone. And before the church.”
The apology follows Ogala’s arrest and subsequent release.
The actress was rearrested in Abuja shortly after being granted bail and was later flown to Lagos by officers from the Zone 2 Command.
According to sources, tensions escalated when Ogala’s lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, attempted to document police actions, resulting in an alleged assault on him and the confiscation of his phones.
Ogala was eventually released in Lagos last Monday following the intervention of a Take It Back Movement coordinator, Jamiu Towolawi, also known as Jharmo.
It was also learnt that Okafor later met with the actress at the Zone 2 Command in Onikan, Lagos, where he appealed for peace and reconciliation.
The dispute between the actress and the pastor reportedly began after Ogala accused Okafor of reneging on a promise to marry her.
Through her lawyers, Synergy Law Partners, Ogala demanded N1 billion in damages, citing emotional distress, reputational damage and financial loss.
She further alleged that the relationship, said to have started in 2017, involved repeated assurances of marriage, introductions to family members and significant financial transactions, including a N45 million transfer.
