President Bola Tinubu on Friday observed Jumat prayers with Muslim faithful at the Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos.
During the service, the visiting Imam, Dr Salahudeen Arriyadhi, commended the President for what he described as the numerous developmental initiatives undertaken by his administration, urging him not to be distracted by public criticism.
A statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the remarks made during the prayer session.
“You cannot satisfy everyone at the same time,” Dr Arriyadhi told Tinubu.
Citing verses from the Quran, the cleric said Allah favours leaders who are attentive to the concerns of their people while expressing displeasure toward those who neglect the needs of the governed.
“Allah was happy with leaders who listened to the cries of his followers but unhappy with leaders who do not attend to the needs of the led.
“We are praying for you, and you will succeed.”
In his sermon titled ‘Unity in Diversity’ and ‘Remembering the Day of Judgement’, Dr Arriyadhi explained that differences among humans — including colour, tribe, religion, language, and nationality — were divinely ordained.
He said, “Diversity is a sign of Allah’s Wisdom. If Allah had wanted every one of his creations to be one, he would have created them one.
“Diversity in religion and tribe should not be a source of problems.”
According to him, diversity should be embraced as a means of promoting unity, harmony and mutual learning rather than division.
The President was accompanied to the mosque by his Chief of Staff, Rt-Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu. They were received by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, alongside members of the mosque’s management.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos on December 20 to spend the end-of-year festive season in the state.
