In a significant development, one of the governors in the southern part of the country,  Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has authorised the payment of a 13th-month salary bonus for civil servants as the Christmas period approaches.

The governor revealed the approval on Monday through posts shared on his social media platforms.

Eno said he had instructed the state’s Accountant General to release the bonus early enough to help workers prepare comfortably for the festive season.

“I have directed the Accountant General to pay the 13th-month Eno-mber salary before Christmas, so our workers can celebrate with ease. Happy New Month,” he wrote.

A 13th-month salary is an extra end-of-year payment, typically equivalent to one month’s wage, offered by employers to support workers with holiday expenses.

This year’s bonus continues a tradition, marking the third straight year the governor has made such an announcement.
In December 2024, Eno similarly approved the payment of the ₦80,000 minimum wage to all public servants.
